GREEN RIVER AIKIDO
KIDS’ CLASSES
Green River Aikido offers two children’s programs:
Tiny Tigers is designed for preschool children, 4 to 6 years old. In a fun and focused environment, these students are taught the most basic Aikido fundamentals using specifically designed games. This process improves balance and coordination. This class encourages the development of individuality as well as healthy social skills.
Our program for children 7 years old and up, continues with the emphasis on Aikido fundamentals and expands into teaching specific Aikido techniques. Students are taught rolling and falling to effectively respond to the techniques as well as the specifics of applying techniques. Our children’s class incorporates testing for colored belts but in a noncompetitive way. Athletic ability, coordination and self-confidence increases the longer the child takes lessons. Until we can do partner “body art” training, our classes are mostly using weapoons (bokken and jo) so students can have a safe practice distance. Presently, all students are required to wear masks while inside the dojo.
Children’s classes are offered on Thursday from 4:45-5:30 pm and Saturday from 9:30-10:15 am
